Temelkuran is Poetry Daily's March 9th Featured Poet

Poetry Daily, an online contemporary poetry anthology, chose Ece Temelkuran as their featured poet for Wednesday, March 9.  They also named "Squirrel," a poem from her most recent collection Book of the Edge, their poem of the day.  The daily poems are selected for their "literary quality" and offer a way for people to see the wide range of poetry published annually, perhaps leading a reader to his or her new favorite poet. "Anniversary" is named Oxford Brookes Poem of the Week

Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre has named Cecilia Woloch's poem "Anniversary" its Weekly Poem for March 7th.  "Anniversary" comes from Woloch's most recent book Carpathia, a striking collection of poems that examines the human condition. The Poetry Centre is run by the English Department at Oxford Brookes University, and it sponsors various events each year to promote poetry in the community.  One of their many goals is to help develop connections between poets and their readers.  The Weekly Poems come from a wide range of styles and are written by both new and established writers.     Read "Anniversary" and past weekly poems here

Ryan Teitman Awarded 2011 A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize

Ryan Teitman is the 2011 A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize winner for his first collection of poems, Litany for the City. Jane Hirshfield selected this manuscript from 16 finalists and will write a Foreword to the published collection. Teitman will receive a $1,500 honorarium and book publication by BOA Editions, Ltd. in March, 2012, in the A. Poulin, Jr. New Poets of America Series.    An annual competition, the A. Of Childhood, Gifted Days, and Loneliness: A Gathering of Tribes Reviews Beaumont

Jeanne Marie Beaumont's book, The Burning of the Three Fires, was recently reviewed by Robert Mueller for A Gathering of the Tribes.  Mueller addresses the poems  in an interesting and insightful, if esoteric, way, highlighting the recurring theme of childhood and other associated themes, like those of leaving and loneliness.  All poems discussed in his review are tied to "childhood and childhood and childhood," from dolls and this "self-fashioning related to childhood" to "having a thing for toys, trinkets and trimmings."
