BOA in the Rochester Art Scene!

BOA Editions is proud to be a part of the 6x6x2011: Global event sponsored by the Rochester Contemporary Art Center. This year, BOA employees have constructed BOA-themed miniature masterpieces. According to Rochester Contemporary Art Center, "The 6x6 event began as a small fundraising project, but has grown into an international art phenomenon. Last year over 5,000 artworks from 43 US states and 22 countries were entered in this exhibition!" BOA is thrilled to be a part of this endeavor this year. Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre Chooses to Showcase Sharon Bryan

Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre,  part of the English Department at Oxford Brookes University, will tell you it has four main objectives. These include promoting contemporary poetry locally and to assist in the connection and correspondence between poets. The Centre's website and newsletter chooses a poem/poet every week to praise and "publish." This week, they made a great decision in sharing with the reading community the poem "Big Band Theory" by Sharon Bryan. Bryan's book Sharp Stars, published by BOA Editions, won the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award in 2009.

“the true color of the sea” selected as Oxford Brookes Poem of the Week

Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre has named Barbara Jane Reyes's poem “the true color of the sea” as its Weekly Poem for April 11th.  “the true color of the sea” comes from Reyes’s most recent book Diwata.  Of the collection, Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre writes:  "Reyes’ voice is grounded in her community’s traditions and histories, despite war and geographical dislocation." New York Journal of Books Looks at Small Presses + Lit Mags

New York Journal of Books just posted a rich article written by reviewer Debra Leigh Scott about the independent small press community. As NYJB said about the piece, " Debra attended The Associated Writing Program Conference in Washington DC, and this piece resulted from her experience there... Debra's article acknowledges the community's robust contributions to the literary scene." The Poetry of BOA Featured on WXXI Radio all April!

For National Poetry Month, BOA is excited to be partnering with Rochester's local public radio station WXXI who will be airing a segment called Poetry Minutes for the week of April 10-16. The segment will feature BOA poems by Lucille Clifton, Li-Young Lee, Naomi Shihab Nye, Cecilia Woloch, Michael Waters, Keetje Kuipers, and Christopher Kennedy!
