Walking the Dog's Shadow wins NHLA "Outstanding Poetry Book of the Year" award
We are thrilled to announce that the New Hampshire Writer's Project has awarded Deborah Brown's Walking the Dog's Shadow their "Outstanding Poetry Book" award. The award, which is given to a poet's outstanding book or chapbook of poetry every two or three years, has previously been won by such writers as Charles Simic and Maxine Kumin. Deborah Brown's collection was selected by Tony Hoagland as the 2010 winner of BOA's A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize. Walking the Dog's Shadow was published in April 2011. It has been a great week for BOA: Publishers Weekly has printed no fewer than three poetry reviews on some of our most recent books. Aracelis Girmay's Kingdom Animalia and Michael Waters' Gospel Night receive spot-on responses. We are very happy to share that The Hands of Strangers: Poems from the Nursing Home by Janice N. The Poetry Foundation maintains a list of "bestsellers" in the poetry world. Naomi Shihab Nye's new book Transfer debuted there at #13 and quickly scooted up to #6. So what does it all mean? Announced: Open Submission Period for BOA's Lannan Translations Selection Series
There will be an open submission period for the Lannan Translations Series from October 1-October 31, 2011. We ask that you read and follow the guidelines provided on our website before submitting: [Lannan Translations Series] The Lannan Foundation of Santa Fe, New Mexico annually funds two new collections of contemporary international poetry published by BOA Editions. The funds support production costs and author and translator royalties. We think of Lannan as the quiet heroes of the contemporary literary scene for their support of poetry and the art of translation.
