A Friend

The intersection of cause and effect
with immortal love
in time, in infinity
moving, acting,
gives us a friend
now, in this moment,
with that face,
that dear gruff voice and a presence
more substantial, more linked to what is alive
than we, who, finally,
give up watching and see
what is good down here:
earthly tenderness
and the pure joy in viewing,
which is the painter's true gift
and is the perfect symptom
of perfect Love.

Un amico

L'intreccio delle cause
e l'amore immortale
nel tempo, in infinito
andare, agendo,
ci regala un amico
ora, in questo momento,
con quel viso,
la cara voce roca e una figura
più salda, più legata a quel che vive
di noi che infinite invece
di guardare vediamo
il bene di quaggiù:
terrigno affetto
e l'immenso diletto nella vista
che è proprio del pittore
e che è perfetto
sintomo del l'Amore.
