National Poetry Month 2018

Celebrate National Poetry Month with BOA Editions!

BOA Editions—Rochester's premier independent publisher of poetry and other literary works— is proud to present two exciting events this April in honor of National Poetry Month. Both readings are free and open to the public.

Read Local with Sean Thomas Dougherty

Saturday, April 14
Location: Nox Cocktail Lounge, 302 Goodman St N, Rochester, NY
Time: 7:00 PM

Read Local seeks to introduce readers in Rochester to books grown right in their own back yard. It is a book club and event series highlighting books released by publishing houses based in Rochester. This April's event features BOA poet Sean Thomas Dougherty, who will read from his latest collection The Second O of SorrowRead Local is hosted by Writers & Books in partnership with BOA Editions and Open Letter Press.

Poetic Proclamations: A Reading with Chen Chen in Celebration of BOA Editions Day and National Poetry Month

Friday, April 20
Location: City Hall Atrium, 30 Church Street, Rochester, NY
Time: 6:00–7:30 PM (doors open: 5:30 PM)

BOA Editions, Ltd. is partnering with the City of Rochester to celebrate National Poetry Month with a free reading by award-winning poet Chen Chen. The event will kick-off with the Mayor's Office issuing a proclamation declaring April 20, 2018, as BOA Editions Day. 

Chen will read selections from his debut collection When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities along with additional poems. A brief Q&A with the author will follow the reading, at which point Chen will be available to sign copies of his book.

There will be a table for book sales during the author signing. Free parking is available on Fitzhugh Street and in the City Hall Parking Lot after 5 PM. 

RSVPs are appreciated but not required. 


A note about accessibility: The City Hall Atrium is accessible by wheelchair and other mobility aids. Enter by the ground-floor door on Fitzhugh St. N. (near the middle of the building) and take the lobby elevator up one floor to the first floor. Go down the hallway to the south past the City Clerk's office and continue into the main lobby. Take the lobby elevator up to the second floor. City Hall personnel will be available at the building entrances to assist with directions.

National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.
