Blessing the Boats: A Tribute to Lucille Clifton, NYC, February 2013

A night of poetry and music to celebrate the life of the late poet Lucille Clifton, and the recent publication of The Collected Poems of Lucille Clifton 1965-2010, is set for Thursday, February 21, at CUNY’s Proshansky Auditorium in New York City. Admission is free and open to the public.

The celebration, to begin at 7:00PM, will include an introduction by co-editors of Clifton’s Collected Poems, Kevin Young and Michael S. Glaser, followed by poetry readings from 13 world-class poets: Sherman AlexieTina ChangToi DerricotteMichael DickmanTimothy Donnelly, Cornelius EadyThomas Sayers EllisNick Flynn, Tonya FosterRachel Eliza GriffithsMarie Howe, Dante MicheauxSharon Olds, and Tracy K. Smith. Musical interludes will be played by mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran. This event is co-sponsored by CUNY Graduate Center for the Humanities, the Academy of American Poets, BOA Editions, Cave Canem Foundation, CUNY Hunter, and Poets House.

BOA Publisher Peter Conners will also be in attendance at the event. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to join us in celebration of the life and legacy of Lucille Clifton!
