Richard Garcia is the author of four books of poetry: Selected
Poems (1972); The Flying Garcias (University
of Pittsburg Press, 1991); Rancho Notorious (BOA Editions,
2001); and most recently The Persistence of Objects (BOA
Editions, 2006) as well as My Aunt Otilia's Spirits,
a bilingual children's book (1978). Garcia is the recipient
of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a
Pushcart Prize, the Cohen Award from Ploughshares,
and the Georgetown Review Poetry Prize.
His poems have been published in more than thirty mainstream
and avant-garde literary magazines, including Antioch Review,
Colorado Review and Ploughshares. His work
is collected in thematic anthologies of Latino literature and
prose poetry. From 1991-2002, he was Poet-in-Residence at Children's
Hospital Los Angeles, where he conducted poetry and art workshops
for hospitalized children. Garcia's poem "Adam and Eve's Dog,"
was selected for Best American Poetry 2004.
